An Arts Society Wimbledon lecture by Pamela Campbell-Johnston
Art Deco, prevalent during the 1920s and 1930s, has the reputation of being the most glamorous and popular style of the 20th century. This lecture will review its development within the context of its social and economic environment and look at specific examples of objets d’art and the craftsmen and artists who made them, including E-J Ruhlmann, René Lalique, Tamara de Lempicka, Erté and more. The lecture will also explore architectural examples from across the world that confirm Art Deco’s full global appeal.
Where & When: Arts Society Talks are held at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Edge Hill, London SW19 4LU and on Zoom, on the second Wednesday of each month (except July and August) starting at 8pm. Coffee is served from 7.30pm onwards when members have a chance to meet one another. Zoom viewers may join at 7.45pm.
