The Commons triumphed once again at the London in Bloom awards, securing Gold for Wimbledon Common and Putney Lower Common, while Wimbledon Common was named London Common of the Year.
The judges praised the woodland management, path repairs and public engagement events on Wimbledon Common, as well as the restoration of Queensmere Pond. At Putney Lower Common, they applauded the careful balance between public access and environmental stewardship, highlighting the attractive woodland glade, the successful planting of the orchard, and seven black poplar trees – one of the rarest native deciduous trees.
Congratulations to the Commons’ Conservation and Estate Teams and all the volunteers who contribute their time and hard work in keeping the gold standard on the Commons.
