Watch the Windmill in Action!

Have you ever wondered what the Wimbledon Windmill looks like when the sails are turning? Find out this weekend as a WPCC Ranger heads to the roof of this iconic landmark to release the brake and set the sails in motion at 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday (14/15th June).

Depending on the wind, the sails will turn for just 30 to 45 minutes, so don’t be late or you may miss it! If the wind doesn’t appear, the sails will be turned manually for just a few minutes.

Turning the sails is part of a planned monthly maintenance routine to make sure everything on the Windmill is still working and nothing has seized up – it is rather old, after all! To check dates for later in the year when you can see the sails turn, please visit the Wimbledon Windmill Museum website.
