On Saturday 16th August you are invited to join the Community VJ Day Walk of Remembrance and Celebration of Hope, honouring 80 years since Victory over Japan Day and marking two years of the Wimbledon Common and Village Walk & Talk initiative.

Hosted by the local Walk & Talk group, this gathering reflects on the courage of those who served in the Far East during WWII and celebrates the connections built through walking and conversation. All are welcome and no pre-booking is required.

Starting at the Village War Memorial the event will run from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and will include:

  • A gentle one-hour community walk across Wimbledon Common
  • Reflections on post-war life in the Far East
  • A poem reading: “Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation”
  • A reading by Conservator Sue Bucknall from Elizabeth Beresford, creator of The Wombles and former Wren
  • An address by Reverend Farodoye: “Blessed are the peacemakers”
  • Post-walk refreshments with coffee and cake to celebrate two years of Walk & Talk.
