Keeping the kids entertained over the school holidays can sometimes be a challenge, but there’s plenty happening in the Village this half-term to help keep them active, engaged and off screens – whatever the British weather throws our way! Here’s some of our top picks…
1. Unleash their creativity at Planets Art’s Might Makers Super Camp!
Perfect for younger children, aged 4 – 9 years that love getting creative, this three day holiday camp (bookable by the day) is packed with superhero-themed arts and crafts, exciting games and heroic fun.

2. Get Buzzy at the Wimbledon Common Nature Club
At this 2 hour hands-on activity young nature lovers with inquisitive minds can learn all about the life of the honeybee and make a beeswax candle to take home, with local beekeeper Alison Pelikan. The event is part of a regular programme of monthly, themed sessions all suitable for 6 – 14 year olds.
Where & When: Information Centre, Windmill Road, Wimbledon Common on Sunday 1st June from 10 am – 12 pm.
Cost: Free of charge but donations to cover costs welcomed. Booking not required but please arrive early to register if it’s your first time at the Club.

3. Learn about Local Birdlife
Join volunteer bird expert, Les Evans-Hill for a walk on the Commons to spot some local birdlife and hear their wonderful songs. Don’t forget to take binoculars if you have some!
Where & When: Meet at the Ranger’s Office any time from 7.45am on Sunday 25th May. The walk will start at 8am and will last around 3 hours.

4. Play a Round!
Enjoy a family round of golf on the beautiful woodland course at Wimbledon Common Golf Club. The Club welcomes under 18s as visitors (and as members) subject to approval. Players don’t need a handicap but must have played golf before, and be familiar with golf rules and etiquette.

5. Check out fabulous Classic Cars at the Southside Hustle

A great one for car enthusiasts, Southside Hustle is an informal gathering of classic car owners that takes place once a month alongside Wimbledon Common. You’re sure to spot a stunning and eclectic array of cars, some incredibly rare, making it a perfect morning out with family and friends. Then why not head into the Village for a coffee or a spot of lunch?
Where & When: Southside (Village end, near the Farmer’s Market), from 8am to around 11am on the first Sunday of each month. The next meet is on June 1st, the second weekend of the May half term holidays.

6. Enjoy an Open Air Musical
Enjoy an afternoon or early evening listening to toe-tapping tunes, heartfelt stories, and a live band this May bank holiday at Mayhem Theatre’s Songs Under the Summer Sun. If you’re heading there on Sunday make sure to drop by the Village Farmers Market first to stock up on tasty treats to enjoy during the performance!

7. Learn about our Local History
A great option if the weather isn’t playing ball, the Wimbledon Museum is perfect for inquiring young minds. Over the bank holiday they are hosting one of their free Ask the Expert sessions – a great opportunity to explore our local heritage. While you’re there, why not try out their ‘sensory trail’ which offers a unique, hands-on way to learn and connect with the museum’s collection using all your senses.

8. Go explore – join a Wimbledon Common & Village Walk & Talk.
These volunteer-led weekly sociable walks last from around 45 minutes to an hour at a gentle pace, so are suitable for all ages. Plus they are generally buggy-friendly so even the youngest members of the family can enjoy some fresh air, and hopefully, sunshine! No need to book – just turn up!
Where & When: Meeting at the Wimbledon Village War Memorial at 10.30 am every Saturday come rain or shine.

9. Visit the Wimbledon Windmill Museum
The Wimbledon Windmill Museum has exhibits for both young and old, covering windmills and milling as well as local history and the Scouting movement. Allow an hour to enjoy.
Opening Hours: 2 – 5 pm on Saturdays and 11 am – 5 pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

10. Run off Excess Energy at a Park Run
This free, fun and friendly weekly 5k community event is open to everyone. You can even bring your dog! It’s not a race, so you can just take it at your own pace, whether you want to walk, jog, run – or just spectate! At the end join other participants and enjoy a well-earned treat at the Windmill Café.
