SUMMARY:Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots: The Art of Diplomacy
DESCRIPTION:A Lecture for The Arts Society Wimbledon by Dr Christina Faraday \n  \nQueens and savvy manipulators of their images: Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I may have been rivals\, but as two women attempting to rule courts full of hot-headed aristocratic men\, they also saw the powerful role that art could play in maintaining control and shaping their self-presentation. This lecture examines how they used the visual arts to send messages about their reigns; to critique\, challenge and condemn and also to negotiate their complex and ultimately tragic relationship. \n  \nWhere & When: The Sacred Heart Church Hall on Wednesday 10th June at 8 pm (coffee from 7.30 pm). Also available on Zoom. \n  \nTickets: Members free. Visitors & guests: £10
