Guided Walk of Wimbledon Village

A guided walking tour led by Loona Hazarika from  Let’s Discover London.

Find out all about Wimbledon Village: it’s much more than just home to the famous lawn tennis tournament; hear stories of gun fights and duels, stagecoaches and hangings, old Georgian pubs and highwaymen chases. The manor of Wimbledon was owned by prominent people throughout English history, Thomas Cromwell, Catherine Par, Mary I, Cardinal Reginald Pole, the Cecil family, Sarah Churchill and the first Earl Spencer. And there’s weird history on the way: the man who deliberately set fire to a house with the king and queen inside and got away with it; bizarre tennis matches like the man who asked for Champagne (it helped his power, but apparently he fell over every time he tried to turn).
