This botanical field workshop on Wimbledon Common will focus on the identification of meadow and heathland plants, with particular attention on axiophytes and indicator species of conservation interest.

Led by experienced botanist Simon Riley and in partnership with the Surrey Botanical Society, this training and education session is aimed at anyone wishing to develop or improve their field identification skills and understanding of plant communities. While some prior botanical knowledge will be helpful, enthusiastic learners are welcome.

The workshop will involve a medium-length walk across generally easy terrain and good ground conditions, centred on The Plain and surrounding meadow/heathland habitats near The Windmill.  Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided free of charge.

Where & When: Meet outside the Ranger’s Office on Windmill Road at 10.15 am for a prompt 10.30 am start on Wednesday 3rd June 2026.
