Designed by architect Thomas Jackson, a resident of nearby Eagle House, the Wimbledon memorial was built in 1919 to commemorate local men who lost their lives in the First World War.

Further inscriptions were added later to commemorate soldiers and civilians lost in the Second World War.

 

The memorial was officially unveiled by Local MP, Sir Joseph Hood on 5th November, 1921.
