16 Oct – 26 Oct

An exhibition of striking portraits of contemporary African Diaspora figures who have excelled across the UK, celebrating Black History Month.
Mary Owusu-Hirsch’s work incorporates Adinkra, a traditional Ghanaian visual language in which symbols express ideas, values and cultural wisdom. By combining these symbols with modern screenprinting, she connects the achievements of today’s trailblazers with a rich African cultural heritage.
The featured image depicts football star Marcus Rashford with the Adinkra symbol ‘Akoben’ which means “war horn.” It is a symbol of a call to action or readiness to be called to action, signifying vigilance and wariness.
This exhibition is a collaboration with Wimbledon Bookfest and has been sponsored by Robert Holmes & Company.
Where & When: Norman Plastow Gallery, 16th – 26th October 2026, 2.30 – 5 pm. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, entry is through Wimbledon Museum.
